Becoming a Member

Membership at Sandbox Church

At Sandbox Church, we take membership very seriously. As elders and leaders of Sandbox, we make a massive commitment to develop and journey with every member. Before someone joins Sandbox, we make sure this is truly something that they want to be part of. We expect a greater commitment than maybe someone would find elsewhere only because we are also willing to give far more than someone is used to as well. We are committed to seeing our members be truly empowered and free, not just attend a church to learn.

Any meaningful relationships take a commitment on both sides. Often, people bail when they are offended or a relationship becomes challenging, not realizing that is the most important time to press in because that is where growth occurs. A commitment to a church is not different. We want to make sure the expectations are there on both sides for what membership means.

At Sandbox Church we believe that membership is a commitment between a believer and a group of believers to being family. Family doesn’t run out on one another because a cooler family shows up. Family doesn’t run out on one another because there is difficult times. Family loves one another through faults and ultimately grows together for the greater good of the Kingdom and of the Kingdom citizens.

As “church membership” has evolved over time in church culture, the questions often arise such as “how do I become a member?” or “what is the point of membership?” or “is church membership even biblical?” - all good questions! In such, we sought to make membership a simple process, yet one that we take very seriously, and all the answers to these questions can be handled in the process.

What is the process?

Those interested in becoming a member need to meet with an elder or elders, and will discuss membership, go over the church core beliefs and vision, and ensure everyone is aligned.

Before the meeting, we ask that you read over the website, particularly the following content:

Please bring any questions on the things you read to the meeting.

During the meeting, elders will confirm that the person is a believer and baptized.

Once a person becomes a member, they will be allowed to serve in children’s ministry, and they will have the comfort and support of having a church home.

Last things…

Before you think about membership, get involved, learn about who we are, and make sure this is the family for you! Here are some ways to ensure you are doing that.

  • Join a life group

  • Download the app on Android or iOS and plug in with your church plant and/or life group.

  • Read or listen to Letters to the Church by Francis Chan (this sums up so well the things that we are passionate about for the local church - “doing church” in a way that is described in the Bible, rather than what Western church culture offers).
